Cozumel, Mexico

This island off the eastern coast of Mexico is a popular spot for cruise ships to dock. Sam and I rented a scooter (after bartering the price down, of course) and decided to show ourselves around the island.

We made it as far as the “old town”, where some ancient Mayan ruins are found, before being talked into a tequila tour and having our photo taken with a Mexican dressed as a Mayan and the remains of what was some kind of temple.

His friend had a pet Iguana named Rocky, who we also couldn’t refuse having a hold/photo with. You can quickly spend a lot of money on tips! His little hat was the draw card I think.

After buying a bottle of 100% Agave Tequila, aged 7 years in American Oak, with a label with no English, we got away from Old Town and traveled along the beautiful western coast of the Island. There are beautiful, wild beaches on this side, and we would have loved to enjoy a $2 beer on the sand if time had allowed.

Cozumel was the final stop on this cruise. The next 11-day cruise visits five Caribbean Islands in a row, such as St Thomas, St Maarten and Barbados (Matt!!!).
