The Rock of Gibraltar

Gibraltar is positioned right at the entrance to the Mediterranean, and is a British Overseas Colony. The British used it for the Royal Navy for many years, but the economy now depends on shipping, finance, gaming and tourism. It is a funny blend of Spain and Britain, complete with Spanish speakers and Tapas, and British Pounds and red phoneboxes.

As the Rock of Gibraltar and its Barbary Macaques (monkeys) are the main attractions, we decided to ascend the peak one way or another. After a 45min walk/climb up the Devil’s Gap walkway and Queen’s Steps, we reached the summit. It was a breath taking spot and well worth the climb.

The Strait of Gibraltar is 14km at its narrowest point and it was quite amazing sailing through and seeing Morocco/Africa on one side and Gibraltar/Europe on the other.
