Ajaccio, Corsica

We had a gorgeous day in Ajaccio, Corsica. The beaches were beautiful and the town very quaint and pleasant. I started off the day visiting a gorgeous french market with artisan nougat, cheese, olives, sweets, breads, liquors, oils etc.

The town is well-known for being the birth-place of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Kotor, Montenegro

We visited the beautiful town of Kotor, Montenegro just one time. The views were mind-blowing and we sailed right into a breath-taking fiord. For this reason this post will be mainly pictures :)

The town itself was very attractive and a walled medieval city.
The backdrop of mountains made me feel like I was in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Sam and I had afternoon tea on the back deck of the ship as we sailed away and a storm swept through the area. It was moody and exciting and we sheltered just out of the rain.

Cannes, France

We fell in love with the beautiful city of Cannes in the French Riviera.  The day was a balmy sunny summer one and we caught a tender boat into the port for the afternoon.

Old town

We started by enjoying a chocolat chaud and walking around the old town and climbing a hill to a castle at the top and a gorgeous view of the bay in both directions.

After descending the hill we wandered the beautiful streets and looked into shops. The handmade sweet stores were a particular favourite and we bought an expensive bar of the most incredible nougat imaginable.

Once we had exhausted our tolerance for wandering through shops and around the lovely waterfront area we went for a swim and cooled off before heading back to the ship. We wish we could have visited Cannes more than once!!

Park Güell, Barcelona

On our last visit to Barcelona, we went on a mission to Park Güell, which was designed and created by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. It was inspired by the English garden movement and built between 1900 and 1914.

View from the park: The Sagrada Familia can be seen on the left and our ship is just to the left of the hill in the distance.

It was quite a distance from the ship, so we used a combination of local buses and trains to get there. The park is on the top of a hill and has a spectacular view in all directions.

As well as being a beautiful and interesting park, with picnics and buskers helping to create a lazy Sunday afternoon vibe, there are some important houses in and around the park, designed by Gaudi also.

This was Gaudi's house!!!

I would love to go back and spend a whole day picnicking and relaxing there.
