Firenze/Florence

When the ship docked in the Tuscan port of Livorno yesterday, Sam and I went on a tour to Florence, or Firenze. We just loved the beautiful city and want to go back and spend a decent amount of time there. Ours was a walking tour through the main centre of the city.

Piazza Santa Croce- the square where the first soccer game was played
We began at the Piazza Santa Croce, which has a lovely church next to it and the square in front is the location of the first ever soccer game and is where the game was invented!

We walked past the beautiful “Old Bridge” (Ponte Vecchio), which is the only bridge which was not destroyed in the war. We went onto the Palazzo Vecchio and admired the huge array of sculptures in the square, before continuing to the Duomo, or main cathedral. It was a stunning structure with a gorgeous façade.

Artsy photo of our feet on the basalt paved road which we walked all day

The beautiful Duomo

Lunch was in a restaurant underground, next to the square and was accompanied by red wine and coffee. We had a vege lasagne, slow-coked beef and tiramisu
