The ship docked at the base of the cliff by this town and you can reach the town by cable car or donkey track. I will post more on this next time.
The island is naturally totally volcanic in nature, and there are red, black and white beaches in different areas. We visited the popular red beach, near Akrotiri. The reedy-brown cliffs drop down to clear blue-green water.
There are a number of cute doors into the cliff which are padlocked shut, but are local cabins. I found these super-intriguing!

We reached the beach really early in the morning and enjoyed a peaceful morning swim, but it started to get really busy by midday, so we caught the bus back to the main town.
